WHAT: Press conference to discuss the impact of cuts to social services
WHEN: Tuesday, May 22nd at 9:15am
WHERE: City Hall Steps
WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO ATTEND.
Background: The Mayor’s FY13 Executive Budget proposes widespread reductions to social service programs which fall under the General Welfare Committee. These reductions are a result of previous Mayoral cuts, losses from recent social services Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and the expiration of millions of dollars in one-year funding that the Administration and the City Council included in last year’s budget. Many of the programs under these agencies are also faced with the loss of tens of millions in State and federal funding. The proposed reductions would hit social services across the board and include substantial reductions in childcare and child protective services, programs for people living with HIV/AIDS and services for the homeless.
